A mini review of AJK Budget Windows VPS. Written after having had their Budget Windows VPS for a couple of days.
Order process - Very simple. Clear forms and options. Good email feedback. Decent range of payment options.
Pricing - I couldn't find cheaper on the web. 12.96 a month! Cheaper if you pay more months up front. Actually only paid 11.02 for first month as AJK had a 15% off first month offer on.
I purposely went for the cheapest option I could find. I wanted a VPS for testing and development purposes so I wanted to pay as little as I could. AJK were the cheapest I found without hosting in the USA or elsewhere.
Features - All the usual features you would expect from a VPS but with notable "upgrades" of 512Mb Ram, 2 IP addresses and 20GB disk space. No worries with bandwidth either. Very good for a budget VPS at this price.
Upgrade options - More disk space, RAM and processor speed. Backup options and SSL offerings at around 18 a year. Pretty good coverage of what you would need. I have just asked for an SSL certificate for https testing. I will let you know how the process goes.
Setup up time 1h 25min. Order placed at 13:23. VPS ready at 14:48. Well you cant complain there can you!
Support - Well I asked for the wrong OS initially ( D'OH) - Windows 2003 Web Edition when I wanted Windows 2008 Web edition. I asked for the OS to be re-installed and it was no problems. Request for OS re-install placed at 19:37 completed at 00:42. Total time 5hrs 5 minutes.
Overall - Budget VPS does what is says on the tin and then a bit more. The price / performance of the VPS is very good. AJK have just entered the VPS arena and they are getting it right. They are making the competitors out there look over-priced.
So far I would definitely consider upgrading the VPS for when our live web applications are ready.
Hope this is useful to other readers.
Best Regards,
Simon Hodkinson
